Punjab Agriculture Universirty VC conferred with Padma Bhushan

The Vice Chancellor of Punjab Agriculture University Baldev Singh Dhillon has been conferred with Padma Bhushan for his excellent services in Agriculture sector. He has received the award under “Science Engineering and Agriculture” Sector.

He was born on June 27, 1947, at daburji village, Amritsar District. Baldev singh obtained his Doctorate from IARI, New delhi, MSc from PAU, Ludhiana, BSc from Khalsa college, Amritsar. He had an impeccable Academic record and thus bagged prestigious scholarships and fellowships.

He has also been associated with International publictions and journals. He autjored scientific books and published 350 research papers. He has expertise in breeding of cross pollinated crops and gave it some new concepts

His services include Director of ICAR, Director of research of PAU. His services in Agriculture sector includes:

  • Assistant Maize Breeder (1974-79)
  • Maize Breeder (1979-87)
  • Senior Maize Breeder (1988-95)
  • Director of Seeds (1995-97)
  • Assistant Director General (1998-2000)
  • Director of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (2000-05)
  • Punjab Agriculture University, Director of Research (2005-07)
  • Director of Research, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (July-October 2007)
  • Before taking the charge as VC of Punjab Agriculture University he worked at University of Hohenheim, Stuttgard, Germany (sINCE nOV 2007)
  • Associate Scientist at International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, Mexico (1993-94).
